The Governor earlier invited Palanisamy to form the government in the state and has asked for the vote of confidence in 15 days. The swearing in ceremony has been scheduled for 4:30 PM.

The fight for the CM post was between Sasikala’s pick, Edapaddi K Palanisami, and caretaker CM O Panneerselvam. On Wednesday night, Governor Rao had heard competing pitches within the ruling AIADMK, first meeting Palanisamy, who claimed the support of 124 state legislators or MLAs. Next up was O Panneerselvam, currently acting Chief Minister, who says he has 11 MLAs. However, both the factions are ready to go for floor test to take a trust vote in the legislature and presented the Governor with a list of legislators supporting them.
In a 234 legislative assembly of Tamil Nadu, AIADMK has 134 legislators, majority of which are in support of Sasikala, who is now serving the jail term of 4 years in Bengaluru jail. With the conviction, she was knocked off of the aspirations to be CM, following her close relationship with Jayalalithaa with whom she lived for over three decades. However, after being convicted she chose Palanisamy as the AIADMK’s Chief Minister face and also re-inducted her once-ousted-family-members.
